Piracicaba, 09 - Banana exports to Mercosur countries shall increase between August and September. Despite of slow pace last months, demand can rise with favorable weather for consumption, mainly in Uruguay, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators.

Besides the slow pace, banana total exports in first semester are already higher than the whole year of 2017. To Mercosur, were exported 25.4 thousand tones of bananas, with revenues of US$ 6.8 million, an increase of 98% and 73%, respectively, in first the semester comparison (2018 x 2017). The volume increase may be a consequence of lower prices these months. The average price for negotiations with Argentina was US$ 0.22/kg and US$ 0.30/kg for Uruguay, values 11% and 10% lower, respectively.

On the other side, growing international demand in the next months can be limited by higher prices in the second semester expected for cavendish variety in North of Santa Catarina state – exporter region to Mercosur.
