Piracicaba, 2nd - In 2023, Brazilian banana exports closed with a drop. The total amount exported was 56.2 thousand tons, 48% lower than in 2022, according to Secex. This was because, despite the increase in shipments to the European Union, fewer fruits were sent to Mercosul, the largest destination for Brazilian bananas.

It is important to note that the decrease in shipments to this bloc was motivated by the economic crisis in Argentina, which reduced its purchasing power. For this year, political instability in Mercosul is still expected to impact exports, as well as El Niño (rains in the South, the main exporting region).
