APPLE/CEPEA: Trade balance closes negative at US$ 134.62 million in 2023 See photos

Piracicaba, 2nd - The Brazilian trade balance of fresh apples in 2023 ended more negative than usual. In other words, imports were much higher than exports. This was due to the controlled national stock – even with the increase in the harvest – which was not sufficient for the Brazilian demand. Another contributing factor was the continued low caliber of fruits, leading to the need to import medium-large sized apples.

According to data from Secex, the gain from exports was US$ 30.43 million (FOB), while spending on imports was US$ 165.05 million, with a deficit of US$ 134.62 million. For this year, it is expected that the weather will continue to affect the Brazilian supply of apples, which may restrict exports and favor imports.
