Watermelon planting season 2016/17 in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará started in June. According to Hortifruti/Cepea consulting, producers are optimistic about exporting season this year, but still the dry weather is a major problem. The idea is to maintain the production area. However, some producers will need to look for new areas in other regions where water is available. Planting finishes in January/17 and exportation is expected to start in September/16.
