Piracicaba, 15 – In an atypical period, some areas of watermelon have been harvested since the beginning of March in Itápolis (São Paulo state), according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators. In general, it does not represent a big part of all volume forecasted for this season, and harvest will be intensified in April.
In Oscar Bressane (São Paulo state), in the other hand, growers started harvest activities in the beginning of this month, and now, activities are intense. Last week (5th to 9th of March), watermelon above 12 kilograms was sold by BRL 0.73/kg, 18% higher than the previous week.
Expectations are good for the season of São Paulo state, since harvest in Bagé (Rio Grande do Sul state) is coming to an end, and this period is good for demand because of high temperatures in Brazil.
