Piracicaba, 1st – Watermelon prices rose sharply in October. The fruit was commercialized at an average of BRL 0,66 per kilogram in Uruana (Goias state), 1,5% higher than September average. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, fruit appreciation was due to low offer in the past months.
While in Uruana, harvest may end in the next days, in Marília/Oscar Bressane (São Paulo state) offer is limited this year, due to lower yield and a reduction in area in comparison to 2018/19 main crop. Works in this last region are forecasted to end on the coming weeks, when harvest in Itapólis (São Paulo state) begins.
