Piracicaba, 14th - Watermelon prices for Brazilian’s farmers are high. Before a small reduction last week (August 3rd to 7th), quotes registered the highest prices from Hortifruti/Cepea historic series, in the end of July.
In this period of the year, Uruana (Goiás state) and Lagoa da Confusão (Tocantins state) are the main producer regions, and in the 2020 season, planting was reduced in both places. Because of the pandemic, growers are afraid of making large investments, since they do not know how the market would be. In this scenario, supply is smaller than offer, pushing the prices up.
