WATERMELON/CEPEA: Outlook for 2019 See photos

Piracicaba, 7 – Watermelon producers expect positive profitability in 2019, considering that investments in areas may decrease for another year. The good results in 2018 will not be enough to initiate new planting areas. On the other hand, weather during harvest may interfere with profit margins of farmers.

The reduction on the national planting area may occur due to climate adversity, mainly the drought in Tocantins state. However, the results of the summer season 2018/19 in São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Bahia states can affect the investments for the mid season in São Paulo and summer season 2019/20 in the other two states.
