WATERMELON/CEPEA: Offer rise in Tocantins state See photos

Piracicaba 18th – A big supply of watermelon from Lagoa da Confusão and Formoso do Araguaia (Tocantins state) arrived on the national market last week (8th to 12th of July). The fruit (> 12 kg) average price was the same as for Uruana’s (Goias state) watermelon, BRL 0.5 per kilogram. According to Hortifrut/Cepea collaborators, fruit quality has been satisfactory.

After a delay in planting, harvest is finally gaining pace in both regions, with the peak of activities expected in August. Although demand in São Paulo state is still low, commercialization has been good, due to high demand in the North and Northeast of Brazil.
