WATERMELON/CEPEA: Harvest starts in BA state See photos

Piracicaba, 03rd - In the first week of February, watermelon harvest began in Teixeira de Freitas (BA), starting the second part of the 2021/22 season. Activities are 15 days delayed since rains impacted planting.

Weather is favoring activities in comparison with the second part of the season, with less rain and high temperatures. However, fruits are smaller than expected, because of rain and smaller solar radiation at the beginning of planting activities (at the end of 2021).

The forecast is positive for the next few months, with better productivity. Concerning prices, supply is predicted to be controlled, favoring quotes and profitability for growers. It can help to reduce financial losses from the first part of the season.
