Piracicaba, 12th – Brazilian export season 2017/18 of watermelon to European Union finished in March with positive results. Growers had good profitability, and volume sent was record for one more season. According to Secex data, in 2017/18 campaign (August/17 to March/18), Brazil sent abroad 71.3 thousand tons of watermelon, 1% higher than last season. The revenue increased 9.6%, totalizing US$ 36.3 million.
Besides good results, water salinity in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states (main exporter region) affected productivity in some areas. The forecast for 2018/19 is positive, since watermelon demand is growing in European Union.
