Piracicaba, 27th – Watermelon seedling transplanting in Encruzilhada do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul state) started in September, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators. Initially, the forecast is a reduction in planted area in relation to 2017 – 2017/18 season had lower productivity and profitability.

Rain in blossom period concerns growers, since it may impact negatively in productivity. On the other hand, high temperatures in September shall result in good development of plants.

In general, growers have good expectations about profitability, mainly because of a reduction in planted area in Bahia and São Paulo states, which harvest in the same period. Planting for 2018/19 season in Encruzilhada do Sul shall continue until October, with harvest starting in the end of December.
