PAPAYA/CEPEA: Weather impacts papaya's quality See photos

Piracicaba, 06 – Weather affected papaya’s quality in the main producer regions of Brazil. Rain (mainly in Bahia state, Espírito Santo state and Rio Grande do Norte coast) caused fungal diseases, such as black-spot, chocolate-spot and anthracnose, which affected fruit peel and impacted sales. Thus, it is important to remember that rain is still not enough to recover water supply in dams, which is still in really low levels. Cold, on the other hand, resulted in skin freckles, mainly in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo states. Another reason for limited quality is the low prices in September, which reduced the number of pulverizations in papaya farms.
