PAPAYA/CEPEA: Havaí prices rise, reaching record for June See photos

Piracicaba, 4th - Last week (June 24th to 28th), prices of havaí papaya continued to rise in producer’s regions due to limited volume. As a result, variety of type 12 to 18 was commercialized at BRL 4.40 per kg in South of Bahia (Bahia state), registering an appreciation of 35% in relation to the previous week. The monthly average of havaí was BRL 2.92 per kg in the same region, reaching a historic record for the month of June.

For formosa papaya there was also a price increase last week. Although formosa recorded a greater supply in crops, when compared to havaí, it was sold for BRL 0.87 per kg in South of Bahia, 20% higher in the same comparison. For the coming weeks, as papaya offer may be under control until the end of August and early September, producers believe that havaí can reach values close to those observed in 2016.
