Piracicaba, 14th – In the partial of this year (January to October), banana prices increased in the main producing regions due to low offer, in particular for good quality fruit, also known as first-category. While cavendish was sold on average at BRL 1.24/kg in Vale do Ribeira (São Paulo state), prata was sold at BRL1.80/kg in Norte de Minas Gerais (Minas Gerais state) in the period – prices 39% and 43% higher than in the partial of last year. For the coming weeks, high banana prices for both varieties are expected, as a result of higher quality and low supply. The harvest will increase only at the turning of the year.
