Piracicaba, 24th - During the last week (August 9th to 13th), the average of classified tomato (3A) closed at BRL 58.38/box (-12,11%) at Ceagesp, in São Paulo city, BRL 66.00 (-8,65%) in Campinas, BRL 65.61 (-2,71%) in Rio de Janeiro city and BRL 54.33 (-8,90%) in Belo Horizonte. The decrease in the tomato prices was a result of the warmer weather, which boosts fruit maturity and promotes earlier harvests. According to the forecast, the reduction in prices was also a reflection of the presence of tomato for industry in the market. Agents of Hortifruti/Cepea related the weak demand of the product and expect a bigger supply if the temperatures remain higher.
