Piracaba, 27th – The first part of the field tomato winter harvest ended this month in the Northern region of Parana state. Prices were already below production costs in June - when the harvest had started – remaining low in July, thus, affecting the region's profitability. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, during these months, prices for unclassified tomatoes fluctuated between 10 BRL to 20 BRL per box, with its values only soaring in August.

Despite lower prices, productivity in this season has been good. Some problems with pests were reported, but there have been no big losses till now. Besides that, the return of rains this month should also favor irrigation of crops, since the headwaters were at low levels. As for the second part of the winter harvest, it will start in October and last until December.
