POTATO/CEPEA: Rain reduces harvest and prices go up at wholesale See photos

Piracicaba, 14 –  Potato prices went up at wholesale last week (August 06th to 10th). The highest increase was in São Paulo (São Paulo state), where potato was negociated by BRL 59.72 per bag of 50 kilograms (+25.38%). This scenario ocurred because of “rain market”, which limits harvest and, consequently, the volume in the market. In Vargem Grande do Sul and Sudoeste Paulista (São Paulo state), potato harvest was interrupted for a couple of days. Harvest continued only in Cristalina (Goiás state) and some places in the South and Cerrado Mineiro (Minas Gerais state). Despite that, the volume is high, due to good productivity and area.
