POTATO/CEPEA: Harvest intensifies, but prices still rise in wholesales See photos

Piracicaba, 17 - Potato winter harvest has started to gain pace in recent weeks. However, between the 8th and 12th of August, rain hit Brazilian crops, hindering activities and limiting supply in the market. As a result, wholesale prices, monitores by Hortifruti/Cepea, rose last week.

The average price of potatoes at Ceagesp (São Paulo state) was  60.52 BRL per 50 kg, an increase of 20.8% compared to the first week of August. In Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro state) and Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state), there was an increase of 14.6% and 12.8% respectively. Specialists also point that the low quality of vegetables also contributes to rising prices.
