POTATO/CEPEA: Frosts drive prices in Brazil See photos

Piracicaba, 13th – Despite the weakened demand, prices of potato are rising in the last few weeks, due to the frosts. Although the low temperatures had almost no impact on the production of the tuber already formed, there are still losses in the areas that would be harvested this month. Therefore, the harvest was slowed down, as producers might scale up the supply of what is left. In addition, rains in Vargem Grande do Sul (São Paulo state) also disturbed the harvest at the end of July.

Due to this, the average prices of ágata washed potato/50 kg bag this August were at 91,11 BRL in Brazil, an increase of 69,6% in comparison with July/21 - with an average of 53,7 BRL.
