Piracicaba, 6th – Between November 2016 and November 2018, potato quotes were below production costs most of the time. With low level of producer capitalization, planted area will reduce in water season 2018/19.
Therefore, profitability tends to be higher this season, since low supply is expected. Besides that, El Niño may impact in production and productivity tends to be low in relation to last season, mainly in Paraná state.
Besides that, the long period with low prices in potato market, reduced the investments in seeds, decreasing the quality of genetic material – which may also impact in production.
