Piracicaba, 15th – Prices of potatoes rose last week, due to rains, which made harvesting difficult. However, last Friday (3rd), the volume of tubers already increased again in wholesales. Despite this, the expectation for September is still a lower offer of potatoes compared to August, as there is less area to be harvested. Productivity should also decrease in these areas, due to frosts in July.

Besides, logistical problems also affected the offer due to the truck drivers’ strike. With this, the average values of the special agate potato/50 kg bag this week were BRL 116,70 (+3,7%) in wholesale in São Paulo (São Paulo state), BRL 138,40 (+20,8%) in Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro state) and BRL 141,70 (+36,7%) in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state).
