PAPAYA/CEPEA: Planting area may reduce 9.3% in 2017 See photos

Piracicaba, 08 th – The planting area with papaya in Brazil may reduce significantly this year, totalizing 12,520 hectares in 2017, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators – a reduction of 9.3% from 2016. The main reason is the drought in all producer regions, which is limiting water availability for irrigation. Although this year rain is more frequent, it is still not enough to recover the problems with the drought. Small prices this year is not encouraging new planting as well.

North of Espírito Santo state, South of Bahia state and Rio Grande do Norte state are the regions where area will reduce, while in North of Minas Gerais state, area will stay the same as in 2016. Only in West of Bahia state the area might increase (11% in relation to 2016).
