Watermelon profitability was positive in 2019 in most regions followed by Hortifruti / Cepea, surpassing 2018. Overall, watermelon offer was well distributed along the year, resulting in better prices.
The previous year had already been satisfactory, which contributed to the increase or recovery of planted area in some regions. In Uruana (Goiás state), planting increased, while in Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia states, there was a recovering (despite the growth in comparison to 2018, area remained lower than in previous years).
In São Paulo and Tocantins states, in the other hand, area was reduced. Finally, in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states, planted area was maintained, considering the seedless fruit planting, intended for exports.
