Piracicaba, 12th – Even with controlled supply in Brazil, melon prices fell down in April. It is worth remembering that, at the moment, it is off-season in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states and Vale do São Francisco (Bahia and Pernambuco states) harvest is lower than expected – rain and market uncertainties restricted planting.

In Vale, the yellow melon registered an average of BRL 1.09/kg in April, value 5% lower than the previous month and 32% lower than in April 2019. This is because of social isolation, aiming to contain covid-19, and the weakening of the economy that are impacting demand – and shall continue to impact.
