MELON/CEPEA: Planting of 2018/19 season intensifies See photos

Piracicaba, 05 – Planting of melons for 2018/19 season has just started in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states, and may intensify in July. Harvest shall initiate this month as well, although Brazilian exports will just begin in August. Based on contracts firmed with European importers, volume destined to international market must be similar to previous season. A good factor is the exchange rate – US Dollar shall remain above BRL 3.50, what ensures high profitability to producers.

On the other hand, melon sales in domestic market usually go down in July due to winter – when demand for refreshing fruits, like melon, is lower.
