Piracicaba, 22 – Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators expect melon area to remain in 2019, since the perspective for investments is low and only long time producers will stay in the market. As for profitability, melon producers expect positive, but limited, income.

While in Vale do São Francisco (Pernambuco and Bahia states), the use of low quality seeds (F2) can affect fruit quality; high productivity in 2018/19 season may have a negative impact on profitability in Rio Grande do Norte/Ceará states. It is important to say that higher productivity dilutes production cost for harvest. Thus, the cost decreased, even with the righ prices of inputs (due to dollar and freight).
