MELON/CEPEA: Main harvest starts slow in Vale See photos

Piracicaba, 25 – The main harvest of melon began in Vale do São Francisco (Pernambuco and Bahia states) this April, and will continue until July. However, harvesting is slow because February and March rain delayed planting in the region.

Thus, for the third consecutive week, yellow melon prices are high in Vale. Between April 15th and 18th, this variety reached an average price of BRL 1,67 per kg, a significant increase of 34% compared to the previous week.

On the other hand, the expectation is that area produced will increase in Vale in the first half of 2019. As a result, supply may rise during this harvest and prices may drop.
