MELON/CEPEA: Exports reduce Brazilian supply See photos

Piracicaba, 2nd – Melon harvesting and, consequently, exports have recently begun in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states. As for most part of the production destined for the international market in these states, domestic supply has decreased, especially from larger-caliber fruits, which are preferred by foreign markets, according to agents.

Thus, last week (August 24th to 28th), yellow variety type 6-7 was quoted at 29.20 BRL per 13 kg box, an increase of 3% compared to the previous week. On the other hand, the melon types 9 to 12 were devalued by being stranded in the domestic market. For this week, an offer is expected still controlled by exports.
