Fresh apple sales were disappointing the last week of July. Demand for apples category 1 was good, but for category 3 was low. Thus, growers gave discounts for this last classification to avoid sending fruits to industry – when apples are stored after packaging for a long period in refrigeration, quality goes down and the fruit has be sent to juice industry. Growers don’t want to sell a lot of fruit to the industry because this sector pays just R$ 0,30/kg, a value that doesn’t cover production costs.
