CARROT/CEPEA: Summer season 2017/18 starts with good results See photos

Piracicaba, 19 - Summer season 2017/18 of carrots started between December and January in São Gotardo (Minas Gerais state). Prices received by producers were 136% above production cost in January: quotes averaged 1.06 BRL per kilo and cost was 0.45 BRL per kilo. Better results were achieved because of a reduction in national supply this season.

At the beginning of the year, rain was heavy, affecting yield in the most of the producing regions. Moreover, cultivated area also declined in Minas Gerais state, due to exit of non-traditional growers this summer. The forecast is positive for the rest of the season.
