BANANA/CEPEA: Sales competition with Paraguay increase See photos

Piracicaba, 06 - Brazilian banana exports can be reduced in April. Prices in exporting region (North of Santa Catarina state) are higher than competitors. Paraguay, one of the main competitors in Mercosur market, has been intensifying exports to Argentina, sending 15 cargos of 1,050 boxes per week, according to Fresh Plaza - supply in Paraguay increases between February and March due to good climate.

In this scenario, Brazilian exports can be impacted negatively, since both countries send bananas to the same market. Between January and March, Brazil sent abroad 15 thousand tones, volume 170% higher than the first three months of 2017, according to Secex data. This volume summed US$ 4.6 million to Brazilian exporters, an increase of 142% in the same comparison period.
