APPLE/CEPEA: Apple season 2016/17 may be better in quality and volume See photos

The harvest of apple gala in the season 2016/17 initiated in the last week of January in Fraiburgo (Santa Catarina state) and Vacaria (Rio Grande do Sul state). The Brazilian Apple Producers Association (ABPM, in portuguese) forecast a volume between 1 to 1.1 million tonnes. Besides that, quality of apples will be better in comparison to last season 2015/16. Producers said that color and size are better. In this scenario, exports can be recovered this year – in 2016, exports went down almost 50% in comparison to 2015, due to low quality and small size. The main buyer of Brazilian apples in international market is Europe.
