Piracicaba, 07 – After a record of shipments in 2016/17, Brazilian exports of watermelon are strong in 2017/18. National season started in August, and European Union demand has been good since the beginning of this campaign, with European season finishing earlier than usual. According to Secex data, from August to November of 2017, Brazil exported 47.2 thousand tons of watermelon, 2% higher than the partial shipments of 2016/17. Besides the high volume these months, Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators are skeptical due to a drought, which is affecting water salinity and productivity in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, the main producer states. The 2017/18 season finishes in March/April, and good results are expected.
