Piracicaba, 08th – Watermelon export season started last month, as usual. According to Secex data, Brazil shipped 3.6 thousand tons in August, the second highest volume for the month is history (the first one was in 2016). Normally, the quantity is small in August, increasing month by month until March, when the season ends.
In 2016/17, shipments were record: 70 thousand tons between August/16 and March/17, according to Secex data. This season 2017/18, expectations are good: the number of contracts are similar to last season, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators.
