Piracicaba, 26th – Watermelon growers from Marília/Oscar Bressane (São Paulo state) are facing problems in soil preparation in the last days, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators. Drought is the main reason, resulting in compacted soil, that difficults plowing.

So, some producers prefer to irrigate the land. However, they do not believe that this can solve the situation entirely. Planting is forecasted to start in August, but without rain, some growers may delay the beginning of the activities.
