TOMATO/CEPEA: Area of summer season 2017/18 reduces See photos

Piracicaba, 10 - Tomato summer harvest 2017/18 shall reduce 12.9% over the previous season, totalizing 6,577 hectares. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, the decrease is due to low prices all along 2016/17 season. Low profitability, in addition to a scenario of default in the market, reduced investments in tomato. In November, the beginning of summer season, prices were bellow cost. Even so, prospects for 2018 are positive, with the end of winter season in December 17. The reduction of area can also favor profitability.
