Piracicaba, 10 - Potato planted area in water season 2017/18 will be 8.6% smaller in relation to the previous season, resulting in low volume. Besides that, productivity tends to decrease this year, reducing even more potato availability. This is a reflection of a shortage of investments, low quality of seed potatoes used by producers, and a period of drought during plant development. With lower supply, profitability may be positive in 2017/18 – prices shall be above production cost.
