Piracicaba, 06 – In 2017, planted potato area for industry may grow 11.8% in comparison to 2016, reaching 20 thousand hectares – considering closed contracts. This rise is due to an increase in national capacity of processing: a new factory in Perdizes (Minas Gerais state), with production up to 150 thousand tons of frozen pre-fried potato per year, is operating since the end of 2016. Following a trend of high consumption of processed potato in Brazil, the forecast is a continuous market expansion in 2018.
