APPLE/CEPEA: Exports begin to decline See photos

Piracicaba, 05 - Brazilian fresh apple exports shall reduce from June on – regular schedule takes place until July. The smaller harvest of fuji, however, limits international sales of this variety. It is important to highlight that, in addition, to low availability of containers in May affected apple international sales, since high exports between February and April demanded a lot of containers rent. Besides that, the European Union has a new requirement this year – a registration that can take months due to bureaucracy.

Even with this scenario, apple exports are higher than last year – between February and April, for example, Brazil sent 38 thousand tones to international market, an increase of 75% in comparison to the same period of 2017 (Secex data). This rise is due to contract extensions; and it may be a recover in relation to last year. Sales to Middle East keep growing, though.
